Welcome to Andy Woo's World! Imagine a world where the continuous improvement is strived for and participating in the effort to find the greater good within life in so many ways and behind the scenes efforts.
This website is a wonderful resource to understand what I do and the things I
have a passion for and involve myself with. My name is Andy Woo.
I was born in Manhattan and raised my entire life
in Brooklyn. I have grown to love New
York City and could never see myself anywhere else. I am an Electrical
Engineer with the Consolidated Edison Company of
NY, Inc., (many of you out there may know better as Con Ed or Con Edison).
I have been working on projects in the company's Distribution Engineering Dept.,
including performing studies that ensure the electric system's reliability and
safety for the company's 3.2 million customers since January 2004. Before
that I was working in their Brooklyn/Queens Engineering Distribution Engineering
Dept., working as a junior designer designing drawings used for electric
construction.
I am a proud alumni ambassador for my Stuyvesant
H.S. Class of 1996 (where I continue to plan our high school reunions),
Stuyvesant's first class to spend all four years at 345 Chambers Street, and
help coordinate the class' reunions. I had at previously served as
Director on the Board for the Stuyvesant
High School Alumni Association.
I spend much of my free time with numerous community-related activities. I am supporter and have worked hard as the Outreach Director for former City Council Member, and current Comptroller John C. Liu of Flushing, Queens; New York City's first ever Asian American elected official. Some great accomplishments working with the Council Member include working with and inspiring students, developing youth leadership and Advocacy through the organization and foundation of Councilman John Liu's Youth Action Team (JLYAT). The JLYAT embodies two goals: 1) enabling a generation to forge a stronger connection with the people of the City of New York and 2) educating others of the resources the neighborhood has available to them. As a team, we handle this through numerous projects around the district. Inspired by the first ever Asian American to represent all 5 boroughs of New York City, I will continue to promote the hard work of his and our team effort's to make sure that "It's not about the numbers, but about the people" through Comptroller Liu's leadership as the City's Chief Financial Officer and fiscal watchdog.
As a political enthusiast, it has been such a joy to work with such a great team and family of folks who want to make a difference. Over the years, we made history: creating the Downtown Flushing Transit Hub Business Improvement District (BID); helping to elect the first female Asian American NY state legislator (former Assembly Member Ellen Young) and continuing to impact the community through our principles of leadership, energy, commitment, and results. Council Member Liu's role as the first ever Asian Pacific American elected in New York has enabled such strong policies to resonate with the ever diverse population of New York City. His leadership has been an important voice for the community with issues such as Transportation, Education, Small Business Services, Health, Consumer Affairs, and all quality of life issues that effect us all in every corner.
As a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Class of 2000 (with a Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the ECSE Dept.), I have given as much as I can back to the school the has aided me to where I am today through such efforts, as alumni admissions recruiting, fundraising, or chapter involvement.
I am also a proud mentor for such organizations as Architecture, Construction, and Engineering Mentor and FIRST Robotics and Lego League. Through these activities I have continued to the best of my ability to inspire the next generation to consider the many opportunities and resources available to them.
Could you believe I'm have succeeded and will continue to work hard earn a couple of these things:
Masters of Science, Energy Management with a concentration in Energy Technology at the
To this day, I am challenged with ways to find more than 24 hours in a
day or rest day or night. But as impressive as I you may want to believe
I'm sure there are other individuals out there like me that believing in working
hard and having fun getting things done. But basically if you never knew me that well, I'm a pretty enthusiastic person that would love to help as many people as I can :-)!
